On referral by a doctor, I will make you a plastic custom back brace that will provide the required amount of immobilization The most common custom back brace that I create, allows you to bend forward, but minimizes bending backward as that is usually what causes the pain. You may need to wear the custom back brace for only a short period of time while you strengthen the abdominal and lower back muscles. The back brace may decrease muscle spasm and pain as well as immobilize your spine and help the healing process.

Some conditions that may require a custom back brace include the following:

• Spondylosis
• Spondylolysthesis
• Pars interarticularis fracture

How are the custom back braces made and how long do they take to complete?

I heat a piece of plastic to soften it and then mold it directly to your body. It will harden as it cools down. I will trim it as needed and attach Velcro straps. Your custom back brace should be complete within an hour.

Created just for you

Custom-fitted back braces are used to alleviate pain, reduce the chance of further injury, prevent deformity and compensate for muscle weakness. This custom back brace was designed to allow flexion, but limit extension, most frequently in the case of someone with a low back spondylolysthesis.
